NORRA Mexican 1000
What is the NORRA Mexican 1000?
Back in 1967, Don Francisco, Ed Pearlman and a group of others worked to make the beginnings of what is now called the Score International Baja 1000. When they originally started this epic race, the name was the NORRA Mexican 1000 Rally. With four classes and a total of 68 vehicles in the race, the adventure began in Tequila, Mexico. From Tequila the competitors raced to Ensenada and carried the rally on to La Paz.
From 1967 to 1972, the race was organized by the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA). The Mexican government took over the race in 1973 having a local Mexican non-profit take responsibility for the event and renamed it the Baja Mil or Baja 1000. After having trouble with the promotion of the event, the government partnered with Short Course Off-Road Enterprises (SCORE). The even has been organized by SCORE with the new name ever since then.
Forty-three years later, the original race is making a comeback and it has just as much flavor as the original. Many of the original drivers are showing up with classic rigs. Parnelli Jones will be there and the race will be held in stages going from Mexicali in the North to La Paz in the South. The organizers are focusing on making this event as much fun as it is competitive, so everyone will be out there spending as much time admiring the cool classic rigs as they will out there racing. According to the NORRA website, “This is not the desert version of Victory at Sea.”

What is Chezron doing for the race?
Chezron has big plans for the NORRA Mexican 1000. We are currently in fabrication of two classic Broncos. One is a custom Stroppe replica and the other is a modification of our original pre-running bronco. So what is the modification? We are making a replica of the original famous Big Oly that Parnelli Jones originally raced back in 67.
